Happy New Year

Happy New Year

Coals to Newcastle

Fun and Games

Friday 1st January 2010
2009 ended as it began at the Queens Head in Cubbington where Jan and I enjoyed a fun filled New Years Eve as the guests of Pete and Margaret. 2009 was an outstanding birding year, freed from the shackles of having to work for a living. I enjoyed a couple of very fruitful foreign excursions to Spain and Turkey where I saw a number of species I'd always wanted to see since my earliest days in Birding. Various additions were made to various lists over the course of the year not least to my coveted County list to which was added Purple Sandpiper, Common Crane, Glossy Ibis and Aquatic warbler. My County year list closed on a feeble 173. I shall endeavour to do better next year, which sounds a bit like the reviews public sector staff have endure these days. Again using bullshit speak my 'targets' for next year includes trying to find more birds myself and then sending records to the County recorder.

Moving on to 2010, New years day started slowly. I wonder why? Actually I didnt have a hang over but Margaret and Pete cooked a magnificent breakfast to send us on our way. We stopped briefly at the entrance to Coombe Abbey to look for Lesser spotted Woodpecker but had no luck. After dropping Jan off at home I moved on to the Tame valley where year listing started in earnest, best birds being Tawny Owl, Barn Owl, Cetti's warbler, Tree sparrow and Bittern.

  1. I think the first picture suits you well, so how about going birding in this outfit?
