Another great day weather wise and a good day to find the scarcer Warwickshire resident birds. I started though with a common species, but not in first week of January - a male Blackcap in the garden, it certainly put me in the mood for the scarcer stuff. Lesser spotted Woodpecker would fall into that catagory so a serious attempt to find the Coombe Abbey birds was called for. After 2 hours and no joy I decided to re classify the species as rare. I'd added 4 year ticks though with Mistle Thrush, Skylark, Treecreeper and Nuthatch. Things really got exciting at Brandon Marsh as the first Reed Bunting of the year was added to the list but that sadly was the high point of a day which had promised so much. Might try for a Linnet tomorrow.
