Garganey sticks

Friday 1st May 2009
After an airport run this morning I popped into Marsh Lane. Lots of activity on the islands and good to see Common terns not being cramped and harried by Black headed Gulls. I moved on to Brandon Marsh on news that there was a drake Garganey (156) there. This time it did the decent thing and stayed. In fact it showed no sign of moving anywhere as it slept in the mid day sun on Plover island. A Hobby was also showing well on Newlands.
Messages continue to flood in about exotic species turning up, mainly on the South coast. Nothing I need fortunately cos it could be a bit manic tomorrow around Weymouth and the New Forest. Theres more interesting birds to come though you can be sure of that. I just hope theres something a bit more local and that it doesnt turn up while Im on Dog sitting duty!
