Went to Clayhanger Marsh for the first time this morning on news that a Hoopoe was still there. When I arrived the bird had gone missing in some distant and inaccessible Horse paddocks and despite a good search of the area by a growing number of birders the Hoopoe could not be re-found. After a couple of hours on site I decided enough was enough and left. Needless to say I was some way back along the A5 when the bird decided to reappear. I turned back straight away and this time the bird was still showing well when I got there. Having enjoyed the bird and the banter it was decision time, Cannock chase or Ladywalk. I'd been abroad too long, it was time to get back to Shakespeares County.
After the furore following the finding of a Wood warbler at Baddesley earlier in the week I was amazed that so few people went to see a second Wood warbler at Ladywalk N.R. despite being well publicised.
On the way back from picking up Jan from the M69 / A5 junction we had a Hobby (148) fly alongside the A5, fortunately on the Warks. side.

  5. News was put on RBA straight after sighting. Not sure why Birdguides didn't pick it up?
